This Hall 2

And what if I told you my hall 2 was the best?
And my hall 2 was a threat to the rest?
And my hall 2 was a threat to the rest?

This hall 2 is my hall 2.
And I love it. Yeah I love it.
I was born and raised here
I got it made here.
And if I have my way
I'm going to stay

From every corner
To every block yeah.
Whether it's warm, or stormin'
Or down right stupid hot. Hot.

From the problems
All the way to the solutions. Yeah.

'Cause this hall 2 (this hall 2) is my hall 2(this hall 2 is my hall 2).
And I love it (My hall 2. I love it.)
I love it. (I love it, yeah.)
I was born and raised here
I got it made here.
And if I have my way
I'm going to stay here for life (ah-ah).

At The Games This Week (27 Feb – 4 March)

We headed into this week with a splashing start, Swimming as the first event of the week on Sunday. We managed to finish overall 1st Runner-up! Rugby was played later on the day, and our boys eased their way thru to the next rounds with a win over Hall 12 & Hall 11, 19-0, 12-0 respectively. The remaining matches will be held tomorrow, 6March, at SRC fields.

On Tuesday, we played against hall 6 in the Tennis Semis. It was a close match as we evened out the game, drawing 2 -2 at one point in time. Sadly, our opponents managed to get ahead of us to secure the win.

It was the finals for Squash on Wednesday night. A nerve wrecking day as we knew we were up against tough competition. The game was tied at 2 – 2, with Hua Ming as the final player. With the entire burden lying on his shoulders, he played a stressful game. Despite all, he came out a superior player than his opponent, placing Hall 2 as the Squash Champions!

Our winning streak carried on to the next day as both our Volleyball boys and girls easily spiked their way in to the Finals, winning hall 3 and hall 6 3 – 0 in both games. This put us in the Finals which were played on Friday, with only 1 day rest for the players. Both spectacular matches played back to back, and a good end as we concluded the week with the girls as Champions and the boys coming in as 1st Runner-up!

Most importantly, throughout all the matches, despite the outcome, the unwavering die-hard Hall 2 supporters were always standing there beside our players with every opponent they took on.

Let's Gold Together! (Part 3) - Squash-ing Opponents!

If you didn't already know, our Squash Team will be facing off in the Finals tomorrow evening (1 March) at 7.30pm, SRC Squash Courts. This is our 3rd game in the finals, so please show your support!

"There is only one thing we should achieve today." The Hall 2 squash team manager declared during his IHG squash semi-final pep talk.

"NOTHING..."

"...but VICTORY." before revealing a sneaky grin.

Such words were translated into reality not long after, when Huang Hua Ming, OMC Vice-Chairman wrapped victory for Hall 2 and ensured our route to the finals after humiliating his opponent 3-0 without reply. Fighting all the way from start to finish, Hua Ming took the first 2 sets without much difficulty. A combination of quick reflexes and smart play ensured that he had a 2 set advantage over his opponent, who was then determined to retaliate. In the 3rd set, the attempted retaliation was imminent. Hua Ming at the same time, got a little tired and found himself suddenly trailing 6-3.

Then came the turning point.

Haha nope. it was not the presence of his girlfriend this time.

It was instead, the sight of Parthiban s/o Mathevanan, fellow OMC-er cheering his guts out and wrenching his hair every time Hua Ming made an unforced error that gave the latter new found strength. And as if by miracle, Hua Ming crawled back to push the score to 6-6. He then lost a point, making the score 7-6 in his opponent's favour but eventually squeezed his way to win the set 9-7 to the squeal and delight of the Hall 2 supporters!

The win for Hua Ming proved to be even sweeter for him than anybody else, as he lost to the same opponent 3 weeks earlier during the preliminaries. Despite the loss that fateful day, Hua Ming trained triply hard, sacrificed some of his chinese new year goodies like his favourite peanut cake and never looked back. And his efforts paid off handsomely.

Earlier on, Tan Zhi Rui (team captain) and Thaddeus Tsang (team manager), who are also coincidentally the captain and vice-captain of the IVP squash team, made squash seem so simple by displaying a myriad of tricks and slick moves in the court.

Zhi Rui gave his opponent absolutely no chance to even get 1 point off him as he conquered 9-0, 9-0 ,9-0. Executing exquisite moves that would make even the reigning world squash champion, Rami Ashour salivate, Zhi Rui totally wowed the audience to the point where jaws were dropped and the cheers stopped as supporters just looked on with awe for 10 minutes. Ummm...because... the match was won within 10 minutes. ;) Those who came late regretted later on as they realised they had just missed out on a world-class, winning performance.

Having a more laid-back approach to the game, Thaddeus' initial lobs and drops irritated his opponent and it proved to be a good strategy as his opponent started making many unforced errors. In the 3rd set however, Thaddeus changed his game plan and started to play a fast-paced game. Unused to the sudden change in style of play, his opponent was forced to make even more errors and one error was that he mistook the wall for the ball and he swung his racket at the wall! And his racket broke! Justin Teh, one of the supporters, later commented, "eh wah lao, thrashing him is already bad enough. still must make him break his own racket!".

Later on, Ying Ting took on the challenge of playing an IVP player. It was not her skills but rather, her determination that touched the crowd. Running at ball after ball, Ying Ting gave her opponent every reason to pant and sweat. The support of her close friends also gave her encouragement and she fought till the very end. Also having the privilege of playing another strong IVP player was Si Ying, who was gunning for an upset. It was honestly a great effort as she manage to steal quite a few points from her opponent, who also happens to be a badminton-convert. The two girls' efforts were commendable as they both put up good fights despite playing much better players.

The 2 girls may have lost. But the 3 boys won. And that was enough for a team victory.

And a spot in the finals on the 1st of March.

We hope to see you then. Let's do Hall 2 proud together.

Lets Gold Together! (Part 2) - The Redemption

The show-down will be on this Thursday, 24th Feb @ 7.30pm. Here's a message from the team (by Kenneth)

Painful memories from our disappointing defeat to Hall 10 Basketball team remains deeply etched in our hearts till today. The moments of regret, the moments when we apologized for each of our mistakes – those were the moments we do not want to experience again as our team set out preparing this season with a mission, with a vengeance.

Led by ZhangRui (Team Manager) and Honda (Team Captain), they inspired us with a shared VISION – This team shall demand redemption for our failure last year, and we must fight for it as a team. For the year 1s like Alwin, Zhi Hao, Bi Neng and myself, we understood the sense of urgency, and were motivated to contribute as much as we could. Seniors like Ruide, Chun Hoe, Yu Hao, Si Kuan, Hongyi, Shifeng, Terence, Wing Sing and Fang Chen displayed equally enthusiastic response, and their desire to win the championship was evident.

As quoted from Honda, “Talent counts for nothing without hard work”. The fundamental key to success is simply about hard work, determination and dedication. That was the attitude we embraced when preparing for the season. All of us dedicated our heart and soul into trainings despite our busy schedules. Everyone’s presence was essential to the team’s progress, and it was satisfying when our efforts paid off during the matches. I dare to say our victories so far were largely driven by our team effort, rather than individual talents and skills. It is the trust and camaraderie, we developed along the way, which will essentially bring us the championship, completing our validation.

The highly-anticipated moment has finally come as we face our nemesis once again, in the biggest stage of all, in the IHG Basketball finals. We are just one step away from achieving our goal. At the same time, we understand how hard this final obstacle might be, and will not let ourselves be overly zealous about the situation. It is going to be a tough battle down to the wire. The results could be decided by key plays down the stretch. In such tense moments, when fatigue is likely to affect our performance, we will need every single Hall 2 supporter to shout their hearts out to push us beyond our limits. We will fight our guts out on the court. This is the moment – it’s simply DO OR DIE.

To end off this short note, let me share with you one last quote (which Si Kuan shared on Facebook).

“The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.” – It’s a team game, and this will be how we seek redemption –

Cheers!

WELCOME TO HALL OF RESIDENCE 2
