Mid Term Break!

Hey Hall 2! How's everyone's term breaking coming along? Trying to catch up with work and unsuccessful like me? Hahaha!! Well I was just going through my email and i stumbled across this email which a friend of mine sent me sometime ago and i thought it'dd be a nice to share it with all of you! So here goes!

Coffee or Cup?

A group of old students, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his
guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite
- telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for
you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.

What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups and were eyeing each other's cups.

Now if life is coffee , then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn't change. Some times, by concentrating only on the
cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it."

The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 Hours in a day is not enough, remember the story of a mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty Mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full.. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes."
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things - God, family, children, health, friends, and passions that you enjoy - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other material things that matter like your job, house, stocks, investments and car.

The sand is everything else -- the small stuff. Replying random emails, attending meetings, rushing report/project deadlines etc.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life."

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So... Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Spend time with your loved ones.
Take time to exercise.
Appreciate your friends.
Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house, attend the concert and fix the car.

"Take care of the golf balls first -- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked". It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Proudly Moving On

Seasons Greetings! Happy Chinese New Year everyone! We here to bring u the latest updates from the IHG’ 07/08. On Saturday 2nd Feb, our softball guys faced Hall 15 softballers in this semi final matchup. Our softball guys did their best but Hall 15 was the better hall in the end. Even though we managed to clinch victory over them in our very 1st game, this time round they came back a stronger team reinforced by experienced players that were unable to play during our 1st game with them. Our boys tried their best managing to keep the score low on the first two innings. However the experience and skill of our opponents started to show and we lost 1-12.

You should have been there for the next match we’re going to report on – Badminton. Here we were up against hall 4 in the battle to be champions! It was such an exciting match and the audience were kept on the edge of their seats as the game boiled down to the outcome of the final mix double match. Our Hall won convincingly in the male singles and the female doubles match. In our female single match it was seriously a close fight. Just to inform, we only lost marginally 18-21/ 17-21 despite being the underdog. With 2 wins a side, the game rested on the outcome of the mix doubles. Our Hall put up such a valiant battle , though we lost the 1st set we pulled back in the second. Though we were down our shutters came back from behind (18-20) to win the deuce, however despite their best efforts they lost the final set to concede the gold to hall 4. Well done badminton team! Don’t be discouraged! You’ve done us proud!

Finally we would also like to report on Squash! WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!! Well done squash players, as said on the tag board your really squashed the competition. We’ll bring updates on Tennis before the New Year so watch this space!

Finally the Finals!

Greeting Everyone! These are the updates from the games that have passed this week! Over the week Table Tennis and Volleyball girls concluded with the finals against Hall 6 and Hall 7 respectively. Despite our players best efforts for both sport we fell short to come in 1st runner up. It is a tremendous accomplishment just to have made it to the finals and though our heart strings are tugged with the losses we are still extremely proud of our players. They have sacrificed much of their time training and have put their best foot forward to win for the hall! Congratulations and thank you!

In soccer which was played on Wednesday night our guys team emerged victorious with a score of 1-nil to hall 13. We dominated most of the game having the higher possession, however our many attempts at goal were foil by the sturdy hall 13 defence. Just before the half time whistle blew, our boys converted the winning goal that stamped our victory.

For squash our hall has been pretty unstoppable trooping their way through into the finals. I’d bring u more updates on squash as I was unable to witness the match personally as I was preoccupied at the soccer pitch. Will keep u guys posted and will upload more pictures! Have a great weekend!

WELCOME TO HALL OF RESIDENCE 2
