Updates from the weekend games!

Hope that everyone is having an exceptional start to their week especially with the New Year around the corner and the much anticipated hall production coming up this coming Saturday. For those of you wanting to get your tickets and not know who to approach, just knock on the doors with a star hanging up on the front or approach any of the JCRC members.

Over the weekend two sports were played starting with guy’s softball on Saturday morning. Our guys once again performed well and clinched victory against hall five moving into the semi-finals of the tournament! We starting well opening a respectable lead in the 1st inning and own 11-6 home runs. Our boys and we are hopeful to enter the finals!

For water polo we met played against hall 6 in a high tension match. Despite our best effort our players were unable to find the finishing touches to fall short of victory with a score of 1-9. There were many judgement calls that were made against our team that did cause some frustration. Here we want to salute Song Loo for his passion and commitment to carry the hall as far as possible in the tournament he has clearly earned the respect from all the polo players! We would like to also have a special shout out to the final year polo players and appreciate their all their efforts, they have really raised the standard of water polo in our hall moving from strength to strength! There's no shame in defeat! Well done guys!

Weekly Updates

Greeting hall 2! We apologize for the lack of updates over the past week. So for all those of you who have been waiting for the updates brace yourselves for the latest happenings from the 2007/08 Inter-Hall Games!

First, track which took place on the Jan 19th! For those of you that were there, I’m sure one thing everyone will remember was the blazing hot sun! Despite the weather, our runners still gave their best efforts and pitted themselves bravely against all the other halls. In the world of track and field, considering the background of our runner our performance is exceptional. I guess all of us need remember that no matter how hard we train it is impossible for us to match up against experience and seasoned track runner. Our Male 4x100m sprint came in a respectable 3rd position and the girls came in 4th and male’s 4x400m came in 3rd. The rest of the runners failed to make the top 4 positions and we placed an overall 5th position for the tack meet.

The following day was the swim meet, and again, the sun was blazing hot! For those who are curious, the swim meet is conducted as such. The heats are conducted in the morning and following which, the finial in the afternoon after a 45min interval. Our swimmer did us proud qualifying for all the events and placing an overall 2nd in the swim meet. Our guys 4x50m freestyle come in 2nd; breaststroke guys 1st, female breaststroke 1st and the medley 1st. Impressive results! Well done swim team! For those who are questioning, with such good results why is it we’re still 2nd? Well our female freestyle was disqualified - a controversial decision. Well what ever the case we applaud our team’s exceptional performance.

For tennis which was held on the 22nd, we defeated Hall 4 to move into the finals! Congratulations! We won 4-1. Keep rooting for our players and do come and show your support for them during the finals! We are hopeful and confident that our hall will put up a fantastic show and strive to be champs of the court.

Next, basketball! In my opinion, basketball has always been highly contested with many hall fielding exceptionally skilled teams. Our hall has always had been a formable force to recon with and though we were defeated, we put up a match that’s worth a special mention. We faced Hall 10 this semi-final matchup, however, due to a miscommunication our players were late and unable to do a proper warm-up. Despite this set back we kept Hall 10 at bay keeping the score was head to head all the way till the finial moments of the match. It was only at the finial moments that Hall 10 managed to score a 3 pointer and win a turn over to clinch victory. The final score was 53-58 in Hall 10’s favor.

Now for Volleyball. Our girls team won Hall 12 with a score of 3-0 and out hall guys lost Hall 6 with a score of 4-1. Before bidding farewell to the guys team, we would like to commend them on their great performance and we’re confident they’ll move from strength to strength and be back with a vengeance during the next IHG. Do brace yourselves and come support the girls team in their final match as they seek to bring glory to the hall.

Finally for squash and badminton we are through to the finals! So do come and support the next few match! Most of the games in this period will be the finals so do come down and support!

The Week in Review

The past week was full of hit and misses for our hall 2 athletes. Our girl’s netball team suffered a setback as they were knocked out in the quarter final match against Hall 3. They put up a valiant battle as they fought to overcome the odds that were slowly stacking up against them. As the saying goes the ball is round and despite our best efforts victory slipped through our grasp.

Next, Track & Field. We happy to announce that we have qualified for every track event. Female 4x100m, 4x400m, Males 4x100m and Males 4x400m. Do come down and show your support for the finals. We’re confident our runners will strive to bring glory to Hall 2!

We continued to find our success on the courts with victories in tennis, squash and volleyball. We apologise for not having any photos for squash due to the lack of expertise to capture photos through glass due to its reflection.

Last but not the least we are sad report that our guys basketball has also been knocked out in their epic battle against Hall 10. The score was neck to neck throughout the entire match till Hall 10 managed a last moment 3pt shot that eventually resulted in their victory. Nonetheless we commend our player for their efforts and applaud their courage and fighting spirit.

As game go on we do hope that you all can come support all our player who have put in the effort and time train and compete under the banner of Hall 2 and represent all of us as residents of this great hall. Thank for your support!

LIGHTS OUT!!

Today’s match was an exciting display of determination, experience and skill. Despite the fact that our hall was up against a strongly seeded team, our hall performed extremely well. In the first half of the match, our girls were dominating and attacking offensively, clinching 2 goals consecutively within matter of minutes. As the game proceeds, we begin to lose our dominance as hall 6 pushed up the tempo of the game. Later in the second half, our opponents made a strong comeback and managed to draw the game with a score of 2-2. PENALTIES!!! Element of suspense lingered around the crowd of spectators as we were all eager to see who crown the game this year. The two halls were evenly matched and even penalty couldn’t decide a clear winner. Penalty drags on and atmosphere was tense. All eyes were focusing on the 13th penalty stroke, and……. The lights WENT OFF!!! The penalty lasted for an HOUR!! Unfortunately, the game couldn’t carry on and it had to be postponed. To be continued…….
