WIN 56-8

Hall 2 kicked off the IHG season with an impeccable start!

In the warm light of the morning sun, our basketball girls thrashed their opponents by a gaping scoreline of 56-8. Visibly more petite in build, the girls from Hall XIV stood little chance against our formidable players.

It was undisputable which team was dominating the match. With their quick footwork and precise aim, our Hall 2 ladies swiftly threw the competition far behind with an 8 point lead. The opposing team had yet to score. The humid air hung still as one of our very own players unwittingly scored an own goal in a bid to defend, ending Hall XIV’s drought of points.

By the time the game reached the third quarter, it was literally raining points – on our side. Our players picked up pace and resumed play with a vengeance. Refusing to rest on their laurels, our Hall 2 players made stunning steals and shots that captured the spectators’ hearts. Li Ping swallowed the competition with her countless shots through the hoop, and point guard Faith put our opponents through a tough time as they tried to break through our defense.

Despite our opponents getting physical and doubling or triple-teaming our players, we easily overpowered the unmarked opposition players.

Nearing the end of the game, Serene Goh had a fast break but was fouled by a defender at the very end of the quarter.

Even though there were several unfortunate misses on the free throws and the lack of rebound catches, the ladies kept their cool under the leadership of team captain Shi Min and shot until the last whistle blew.

Overall, our spirited players were consistent in putting up a strong defense and displayed mettle and sheer grit. They overpowered the competition and breezed through to the next stage.

Hall 2 is beyond proud of our fighters and we look forward to you ladies devouring the next group of opponents.

End of IHG/IHRG 2013

Hello residents of Hall 2!

We have come to the end of the IHG/IHRG season and we've emerged a respectable 5th placing. 

Together as a hall, we have fought hard for our honour and our pride, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank every single resident who has been out on the field battling it out or cheering their lungs out for us. What we witnessed this season was nothing but top notch sportsmanship and true grit. 

Regardless of the wins, losses or tears shed, we hope you will always remember the feeling of teamwork and togetherness you've shared this season. In another few years, you'll forget the shots, scores, tackles and goals - but you'll remember the team mates who stood by your side as you trained together each day.

We made it to 4th for sports this year, and we want to thank all our athletes who have put in the time and effort to commit to rigourous training in the days leading up to the matches. We saw you play every game as if it were your last, and we salute you for your fighting spirit.

Our rec players ranked 12th this year, and we would like to commend them for their mental agility and strength of spirit. The effort you guys put into training may not be obvious, but we know it takes a patient mind and a calm disposition to own the rec battle field.

Hall 2 Awesomes made it to 10th this year at the cheer competition. I'm sure every hall resident who was present at the competition could see how much blood, sweat and tears the team put in to execute such a flawless performance. Congratulations on having All Stunts Up, and though the results may not reflect how amazing you guys performed, you'll always be champions to Hall 2.

Our dance team Live Wire brought us to a resounding high at HOCC this week, clinching the 4th position overall. We've said it already and we'll say it again - you guys owned the dance floor with your slick moves and stunning concept. You deserve no less for your tireless efforts and practices. Hall 2 could not be more proud of our team - especially since many of you are new to dancing.

Last but not least, thank you supporters, for being present at every match and competition. IH season was a time where we came together to show our support for one another - and I hope we'll all remember this feeling of being united, and let it live through the rest of our time in Hall 2.

Hall 2 Rugby by Lee Weijie

For many of us, there was no 8am on a Sunday. But our ruggers were already at Saint Andrew’s School for the second part of the rugby tournament. The team could play up to 3 games, if only they win every single game. Any mistake could cost them to go home straight away. 

Quarter-finals against hall 5: 7-0
Lethargic and sluggish, the team went into the game. It was only after the halftime, the team woke up to the game. NTU confessions famed Kenryu Wang kicked the ball so deep into hall 5’s half, their winger was quickly running back to it, little did he know that our Lim ZhiHao who was at least 30 meters behind was quickly covering the distance. With lightning bolt speed, ZhiHao burned their winger and took the ball to score a try.



Semi-finals against hall 6: 0-0 ( Hall 2 win on penalties)
This is one of the toughest game we have anticipated. Hall 6 was second in last year’s IHG. Ex Hall King Chia Wang Peng was inches away from scoring a try when the ball decided to bounce out of his Bodybuilder chest. Our team showed resilience when defending against hall 6 in the dying moments of the extra time. Nil nil, we went on to penalties! Hall 6 fired both the penalties wide while Arnold Wee and Teo Yu Hao scored their kicks in style. WE ARE THROUGH TO THE FINALS! Revenge couldn’t be sweeter as Hall 6 beat us on penalties last year. 





Finals against Hall 3: 14-21
They are the reigning championship holders for many years. And for the last 2 years, no team have scored a try against them. Our ruggers know how much they have to work to win this. We were all tired from the two games before this, while Hall 3 only played ONE game (Some Hall walked over when they know they will be playing with Hall 3). Despite the fatigue, our ruggers went into the game strong-willed, wanting to dethrone them. 3 mins into the game, Kenryu Wang feigned his opponent with his super acting skills and he sprinted 50 meters to score the try! 7-0! Seven minutes into the game, Arnold Wee took the game to 14-0 with a run down the wing with his quick short legs sprinting. With half of the team in ivp, the reigning champions were shocked. As the game continued, our players grew increasingly fatigued. Hall 3 then came back to score right before half time, and twice in the second half. We lost.




We may have lost the finals, but we walk tall after the game ended. We did our very best, put our bodies on the line for our teammates. Special thanks to our supporters who came down early in the morning and Our Captain Tan Wei Qiang, whose nags brought the team to another level!

Hall 2 Soccer Champions! by Clement Cher

Turf city was where our soccer boys had the chance to redeem themselves.
Hall 2 took the lead when a sublime freekick by Captain Chai from an acute angle fooled everyone and found its way into the back of the net. 1-0



Stout defending by our astute backline kept Hall 3 at bay, with Alvin Bay sliding in to clear the ball off the line, onto the post and out for safety. 


A massive clearance by Gan found Sim through on goal who held off 3 defenders to slot the ball home. 2-0 
An awkward bounce of the ball led to our leftback Bay slicing his clearance and the ball unfortunately found itself in our net. 2-1



But 4 years of heartache has taught us to believe and to fight on. The closest Hall 3 came was a shot that struck our cross bar but as time ticked by, it was apparent our boys would see the game through.
We won. Tears were shed (actually just Bay, though he claims he fell and hurt himself) and our boys brought the gold home. 



'Nuff said. Hope you all enjoyed your CNY dinner.

Hall 2 Female Basketball Champions! by Daphne Tan

It was time for revenge. Having lost to Hall 8 previously in the netball quarters, we vowed to return them the favour.

A quick cheer by our Captain Xiaohui Tan ("Just do your best and I will RAM THEM DOWN") left the girls with conviction that the night's game was theirs. All they had to do was be calm and composed and the rest would be a piece of cake.

The game started steadily with Xiaohui marking her territory with two 2-pointer shots. Although the momentum of the game was disrupted when one of the hall 8 players fell, the girls recovered quickly with Daphne Tan putting in a shot and Kun Yan suavely converting a penalty shot. Substitutions were made - Sagaana for Daphy; Mai for Xiaohui - and our girls continued to dominate the court. Hall 8 took advantage of Xiaohui's absence and chased the score to 7-5 but our girls wouldn't let them be. They halted their attack and by the end of the quarter, Hall 2 was leading 10-5.

The rest of the match was a blur. Affectionately dubbed "An-gee-P" (moniker to MVP), our star player Angela Yap whizzed around the court, making countless steals with her stealthy steps, then converting them into crowd-pleasing 3-pointers. Hall 8's defense was greatly weakened as "Twin towers" Shell and Sagaana stood before them, threatening to cut their every move. Playmaker Yin Leong was outstanding with her fast drives and was clearly the crowd's favorite as her fan club's thundering cheers chorused to her every move. Intimidating even when off the court, Mai jie fought fiercely and entertained the crowd with her funny antics.

By the start of the fourth quarter, the air was sweet with the smell of victory. Or it could just be Welfare Mama Zilin Choo with her stash of Yakult with love. The girls eventually won 55-34. Enough said.

We would like to thank our coaches Chun Hoe and Shaowei, our sports secretary Art and everyone from Hall 2 who have supported our journey thus far.
