Hall 2 Water Polo Heads to Semis by Chua Yuan Pin

This evening, Hall 2 witnessed a total annihilation of past years champion team. Our water polo boys defeated Hall 3 with a score-line of 11-0.

A full squad of Toh Zhi Hong(Magic-Fingers), Ng Ray Lim(Grand-Master-Ray), Daryl Lim (Smeagol), Chia Wang Peng (King-Wanky), Alvin Kuek (Mr. 300), Mark Lim (Markie), Jonathan Ong (6-Pec-Beast), Tong Xu Le(Shyle), Eugene Tang(Swims-Too-Fast), Kor Kiat Yao(Guai-Lan-Kia), Chua Hong Qian (Biceps-too-big), Chua Yuan Pin(Too-Much-Cock), Alvin Teo(Bible-Black), was on hand to control and overpower the reigning champions. The game started of strongly, with our own Magic-Fingers conjuring a goal out of nowhere.

Our players continually pressured the opponents, never allowing them to attempt a shot on goal. From then on, the reigning champions never stood a chance. By the first half, we were up a comfortable 6 goals, thanks to Zhi Hong(3), Daryl(1), Ray(1), YP(1). Each goal was well taken, leaving their keeper helpless.

In the second half, our opponents began to tire, and stood by the shallow end of the pool catching their breath. A goal scoring spree by 5 different players, Daryl(1), Jon Ong(1), Ray(1), HQ(1), and Wei Da(1), allowed the polo boys to practice their tactical movement in the final minutes.

Special commendations to the following players:
In the first half, Mark had to battle a 120kg opponent in the centre position, and his scrawny legs did not fail him.

Our 6-Pec-Beast substituted Mark in the second half and the opposition came back with a vengeance. Jon’s back was littered with scratches and his elbows had deep cuts. Despite all the rough play, 6-Pec-Beast held his ground and was a constant menace to the opponent’s defence.

Hall 2’s King Wanky was on hand to terrorize the defence. By continually swimming round their players, just like a great white shark, their defence was confused and allowed other players to have ample time to take their shots.

Japanese Super Star Kenryu was not in the squad list but his instructions from above the water were calming to all our players. His directions allowed the team to move from point to point confidently and when instructions were given to take a shot, no one would hestitate.

Despite a score-line of 11-0, Grand Master Ray felt that more mistakes could have been cut down and more goals scored. All of us in Hall 2 pray that one day this man’s insatiable appetite for the perfect game will be sated.

Congratulations to our Hall 2 Water Polo Boys for making it to the semi-finals! Stay tuned for the polo semis feature!

IHG and IHRG Week 6 Updates

22 Jan 2013, Tuesday
C Bridge: Today, our c bridge players played their last game of the IHRG season. Although they lost(to Hall 10), we believe they have played their hearts out, to the best of their abilities. It was difficult for them to cope with setback yesterday, losing to both Hall 4 and Hall 9, but they took it courageously. Instead of blaming their defeat on the set up of the game(playing against prof, experienced and national players), our c bridge players listened attentively when gameplay were revealed to them and learned from the mistakes made. For that, we applaud them!(: I believe team captain Ricky and players: JingHang Tan, Jordan Ang, Guo Zhen Chan(their best defender!), Yan Ping, Philip, Wanxuan Chow and Debbie Sim will come back stronger and more formidable next year.

This marks the end of IHRG. To all the rec players, THANK YOU!(: The 6weeks of fight and countless weeks(or even months) of training will be remembered by us. We truly appreciate it! All the best for your future endeavours :D

Netball: Against the backdrop of the setting sun, our netball girls began our title defence with a landslide victory of 42-9.
There was just one word on the minds of all hall 2 residence that were down to watch. annihilation.
Our girls set a blistering pace in the first quarter, with Xiao Hui (Goal Shooter) showing an accuracy that Hall XVI struggled to match.
By the end of the first 15 minutes, we were ahead 15-2, a lead they would never relinquish.
Our girls fluid passing proved an obstacle for the Hall XVI opponents. With YuHui Tay, our influential captain pulling the strings in the middle of the court, and great players such as Daphy, Sok Peng, Angela Ng, Tessa, Huimin, Xiao Hui, Shimin, Cheyenne, Xue Wen, Sagaana, Wan Ling and Gloria running their lungs out. Hall XVI never stood a chance.
as the sky withered into darkness, so were the confidence of our opponents as they withdrew into their half. and there was even time to let Xiao hui, our top scorer, take a breather on the bench.
The match drew to a close with an impressive scoreline of 42-9.

23 Jan 2013, Wednesday
Sepak Takraw: In our first match, our trio of Billy Wong, Kenneth Gan and Yong Geng Tan headed out on the court to face our opponents from Hall 3. Winning the toss of the serve, they got to serve the first match. Wong Zi Hao Billy managed to capitalize on the opportunities during the first set and scored with an unstoppable header, winning the first set with a score of 21-11.

However, our inability to toss the rattan ball back to Hall 3's side(accurately) caused us to lose a few points. Despite having some excellent serves, we lost the second and third sets with scores 18-21 and 17-21 respectively. It was a close fight and our boys did their best. Thank you Teo Yu Hao(captain) and players Chai Ming Long, Alvin Bay, Alvin Chin, Chia Wang Peng, Arnold Wee, Terence Cheng and the trio mentioned above for the good fight!(:

(The trio)

Netball: Despite going into the game today in high spirits from yesterday's landslide victory, our girls found themselves 2-0 down in the early stages of the game.
They eventually got into their groove halfway through the first half and scored 2 goals ending the first quarter 2-2.
The girls pulled away in the second quarter and led the game for the first time ending the quarter leading hall 5 8-6.
The third quarter proved to be a spectacle as our girls pulled away with the lead. Goals scored by our unstoppable attackers sok peng and daphne ensured that we ended the 3rd quarter with a comfortable lead of 17-9.
We continued dominating the last quarter as hall 5 begin to show signs of fatigue. Several of their passes were intersected by our midfield players, this led to many goal scoring opportunities on our end. Our attackers continued their scoring streak in the last quarter which ended 24-12.

24 Jan 2013, Thursday
Water Polo is a sport that turns boys to men. Hall 2 Water Polo Boys have never failed to have a 7am swim every morning, and results could be seen from their vigorous routine.

(Hall 2 waterpolo players looking cool in the pool!)
As our Polo team finished their warm-up, 7 of our boys slipped into the water, bodies tensed and ready to battle. The match begun with intense ferocity, with our boys holding possession but being not able to convert the score. Our opponent, Hall 4, surprisingly scored the first goal of the match by side stepping our goalkeeper Ray.
Unfazed by the early goal, our boys went on a blitz, scoring 3 goals in quick succession. The crowd went wild. Hall 4 managed a counter-attack and lobbed the ball into the bottom corner of the goal, despite our goalkeeper trying to distract the shooter.

The score was 3-2 as the match went into half-time.
A quick pep talk by Kenryu and multiple substitutions later, our boys headed into the pool once again. This second half was significantly organised, with our players being organised going forward, and making our opponents disorganised on their attack. Our attacks were getting more serious and more intense, and just after 5 minutes into the second half, our opponents gave up, staying in their half, just trying to guard their goal.
Sad to say, our goal was breached twice more by a player who lobbed the ball over our keeper.
The match ended 8-4. What many people did not know is that, out of the 13 players in today's squad, there were only 4 seniors. The future of Hall 2 Water Polo Boys is bright.
Congratulations to our Water Polo Boys for making the Quarter Finals in the IHG!

Squash: There is more to squash than hitting a rubber ball against the wall. This high-speed racquet sport requires mental agility and hardwork. Our squash players have these qualities but they couldn't defeat Hall 16 in the matches played today. It would be an understatement to say that the matches were difficult as they played against the IVP captain and vice-captain for squash :( Nevertheless, our racquet queen ZiLin Choo managed to win the last match.

We would like to thank the squash team(especially those who played: zhi rui, casper, zilin, jie hui), led by captain edwin for the good fight.

26 Jan 2013, Saturday
Table-tennis: Our table-tennis team started their first round against Hall 1 with a mixed doubles match, with Jon Ong and Adelene spearheading this first match of the IHG season. With true teamwork and great skills, they won the first game with a score of 11-7. Knowing the importance of this match, they remained composed and won the nail-biting mixed doubles match with a victory of 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 11-8).

Next up was our own racket queen, Zilin. A formidable female doubles duo was formed when she paired with Tifen. With energy and vitality, the duo sent their opponents, seemingly manifested by inexperience, sprawling home. The impeccable combination of speed and skill ended the rout, with a victory of 3-0 (11-3, 11-5, 11-4).

This was followed by a victory culminated by the ferocity and aggression of Kiev, our male singles player. His enthusiasm and presence, coupled with his skills, intimidated the opponent - leading to several unforced errors. The game was sealed with a hard drive down the table, with a score of 3-0 (11-6, 11-4, 12-10).
Despite us already victorious against Hall 1 after the first 3 matches, our players never took a step back and fought hard. Our male duo, Tiongsen and Glen, facing Hall 1's player-coach and captain, resisted and defended numerous hard smashes and slices, and managed to win several points with amazing manoeuvres and unguarded smashes. However we were not able to get the better of the opponents, and lost the match with a score of 0-3 (2-11, 8-11, 5-11).
The final battle was the female singles match, represented by Melody. The opponent may not look menacing off the court, but her tigeress aggression left our player shell-shocked. Notable attempts were made by our player, but they were not enough to stop the opponent in the rallies. Great determination was shown by our players. The match ended with a score of 0-3 (2-11, 0-11, 2-11).
We advanced to the next round with a victory of 3-2 against Hall 1.

Softball: The temperature was unbearable this afternoon but our softball played their match without complaints. The merciless sun caused them to lose a few points as the balls were nearly invisible under the powerful bright rays. Nevertheless, the fighting spirit in them told them to fight on. They were mindful of their responsibilities: to do their best for Hall 2, everything else is secondary and temporal: the disadvantage and pain inflicted by the sun (on their sunburned skins and squinting eyes).
The hero for today’s match is Chai Ming Long. He managed to hit the ball thrice!!! GOOD EYES! It was the coolest thing under the hottest condition! His achievement took the pain (inflicted by the blazing sun) away from our minds as we turned our attention to the match.

However, it was not sufficient to bring the scores up Treading between hope and despair, we fought hard hoping to do something to change our fate but were unsuccessful. The sun, their greatest nemesis, continued to distort their visions and drained their energy away. It was disheartening for our guys to accept the fact that they have lost to Hall 11 with a final score of 12-6.

Alvin Chin, Jing Wei L, Joshua Lim, YoRo Wannagetrich, Dennis Lin, Victor Ong, Guo Zhen Chan, Zi Hao, zhen qiang and our hero Ming Long... We know you guys have put in alot of effort into the match. Despair not as we are always here to cheer and support you guys.

IHG and IHRG Week 5 Updates

14 Jan, Mon, Volleyball (F): Our volleyball girls took on hall 13 in today's crucial match in order to qualify for the quarterfinals.
Our team captain Mainisah was unable to play because she was unwell, weakening our team's strength from the onset. Hall 13 showed no mercy and took a huge lead in the first set. However our determined Hall 2 players, led by stand-in captain Anna , showed that they were no pushovers and chased the game back to a smaller margin. Unfortunately, our efforts did not pay off and Hall 2 lost the first set with a score of 25-17.

Despite repeated attempts to outdo and outplay the competition in the second set, our players were unable to emerge victorious against Hall 13, losing with a score of 25-15.
Special mention to Xiaohui for doing a good job in today’s game, despite it being her first volleyball match.
A big thank you to all supporters who came down to cheer on our girls! From the buzz we created after the match, you would have thought we won the champion title!

17 Jan, Thurs, Water Polo: Our very own Hall 2 Polo Boys sailed to an easy victory against Hall 9 this evening. Despite the absence of two IVP players, Alvin Kuek and team captain Daryl Lim, we were able to earn a crushing 9-0 victory.
Special mention to goal keeper Kenryu Wang who saved every single goal that came his way. We're looking at a team of winners, Hall 2.

We wrapped up the relay with two of our fastest runners, Edwin Leongand Eugene Tang, the team earning a respectable 6th place out of the 16 halls. Here's a shoutout to the rest of the team, Steph YeoKor Kiat Yao,Benny TeoMelody TaiAngela Yap and Choon Hao Wei for their resilience and speed this morning!

Tennis IHG 18 Jan by Chua Yuan Pin

18 Jan, Fri, Tennis: Our Hall 2 Tennis Players faced off with strong opponents from Hall 10 today after a long day of lessons. Victory meant entrance to the quarter finals. Each player was charged with a certain determination and vigour, despite their gruelling schedule.
The matches were played concurrently, with our Male Singles going first. Derrick was on fire, constantly giving problems to the Hall 10 Captain, Donald. The shock was clear on Donald's face as he probably expected a easy match given his standards as an IVP player. Several long rallies were seen and cheers erupted with each point. Despite Derrick's pin point shots, Hall 10 grabbed the set.
At the same time, the Mixed Doubles were being played.
The Zi-Bros(Zi-Lin & Zi-Quan) were up against 2 giants from Hall 10 who used their height to great advantage, constantly neutralizing the lobs from our skilled Zi-Bros. Every game was close, the scores at 40-30. Hall 10 snatched victory of the set right under our noses.
Next, the 3 matches of Male Doubles, Female Doubles and Female Singles were played. The Male Doubles Alvin and Dominic were faced against a Kenryu-look-alike and a big, big behemoth. Ferocious serves were given and threatening drop-shots. Our hero Chin struck again, leading the pair to 2 victorious sets. Despite this, Hall 10 gained victory against us once again.
The Female Doubles Jia Hui and Wei Xin showed us what tenacity and courage meant. They never gave up a single point, running for each ball and shouting commands through their game. But this was not enough to avoid defeat at the hands of 2 very proficient opponents.

Lastly, Miyuki faced her opponent from Hall 10, a seemingly meek girl. However, Miyuki's opponent was a wall, returning every shot. But Miyuki was never disheartened, always hitting the ball left and right, drop-shots and lobs. The game was pulled all the way to tie breakers, where Miyuki rallied from 5-2 to 5-5, before losing the set 7-5.
For all the supporters that came down, thank you for your loud cheers and continual support. All the tennis players would like to extend their thanks to you.

Hall 2, you do us proud just by showing your spirits for every game.

Soccer IHG 20 Jan by Mindy Chow

20 Jan, Sun, Soccer:
Against the run of play, hall 6 got a corner and somehow scored from it.
But what's one goal when you can have three? It was merely warm up for our boys.
we were down with 1-0 but we made a kickass come back.
Kenneth Sim's stunning overhead kick fooled their keeper and equalised our score, bringing us into 1-1 where the crowd went wilddd.
Hall 6's game plan was to close down our players fast but we countered with some crunching sliding tackles that successfully curbed their aggression.
In the second half Billy outmuscled their last man, latched onto Yu Hao's throughball and slot the ball past their keeper into the bottom left corner of the goal. The crowd was hysterical with echo-ey cheering with sound effects by our Cheer king Kee Xu Rong and cheer queen Jocelyn Chng.
Score: 2-1
Yu Hao, the commanding centre forward who pushed the team forward when were down at first, outmuscled one of their players and accidentally caused him to slip and fall. However, his kindness led him to ditch the ball, and help our opponent up despite the risk of losing our possession of the ball to them. Remarkable spirit that is highly worth commending.
We faced a blessing in disguise when Bryan (Backpain Han) got tackled unfairly. Ming Long took the free kick which came our way, which was pushed into the goal by Yong Geng's stunner cracking header along with the boys' persistent pressure. From where the spectators were, we were squinting past an overcrowding infront of the goal post. The boys refused to set their eyes away until the ball went in. the crowd went "Bonkers."
On our defense side, our defenders were on guard, full time. Parthi won several headers and important challenges to fend off the attack from hall 6 players. Alvins Bay and Chin were dazzling on the field, setting up a wall of defence against the opponents.
In the meantime dynamite Mr Chai Ming Long was barely seen as we only steal of him zooming past flustered opponents at the speed of light. He outmuscles our opponents long before they realise what hit them. He showed impeccable adaptability by filling in across every position in midfield: Playing right mid in the first half, centre mid and left mid in the second half, the opponents could not match up to our road runner.
Kenneth Gan could have had a goal for himself too, if it wasnt for our ever reliable keeper Glen abs Liang.
Chia Wang Peng, did not break a sweat. A motto for looking good.
[Additional commentary by Arnold Wee] Leading with a score of 3-1 as the hall 2 contingent held their breaths, the long - awaited anticipation of nic tai's arrival into the field came to pass. The team activated our star player Nic Tai to polish up the score, who immediately began his serious warmups. He strides onto the field, with a lovely air about him, where he could have had at least one touch of the ball had he not pussied out of a header to avoid messing up his long, wavy locks. Breaking away from a counter attack, Nic sprinted for his life as a ball was played ahead of him. with hall 6 having poured all of their men forward, nic was home free. He saw his name up in the headlines for making it 4-1 to hall 2. But alas, the final whistle was blown and nic failed to muster a single touch on the ball. It could all have been so different had tai ge neglected his hair for that split second.
In the meantime, tackles were flying everywhere as Billy hits the cross bar and his free kick found the top left corner of the goal post but was unexpectedly saved by their keeper. Well what can you say, our boys are not greedy, three is sufficient.

WELCOME TO HALL OF RESIDENCE 2
